If we would have learned one thing from last year, it would be that we will have to deal with each other and the world in a different way. Perhaps now it is the best opportunity to do it better. To avoid a climate disaster, to end the ‘refugee-crisis’, to stop the destruction of nature and abolish wars. That’s why we call everybody to join a manifestation to inspire each other, to learn from each other and join forces to make the world a bit better in a non-violent way. The event will happen in Utrecht from 10th till 12th of September 2021. This includes the infamous date of 11th of Sept, exactly 20 years after the attacks on the WTC in New York. The enormous aftermath of this attack, namely the War on Terror, is the most striking example that war and violence only lead to more violence. 9/11 will therefore have a significant place in the program.
In different venues workshops will be held and there will be ample space for theater and music, both outdoors and indoors. The event will be completed with demonstrations and self-made flash-mobs. Dependent on Covid-19 restrictions the number of participants will be determined. In principle, workshops will be held in groups of 25 persons maximum, and will have an interactive character, so no long speeches, but new forms of communication, for instance through art. Live streaming of part of the program will be included. Furthermore, the internal program -see attached overview- consists of four main themes, in which we also tackle three challenges: climate change (focus Friday), war on terror (Saturday) and the treatment of refugees / migrants (Sunday) The need for nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts and achieve lasting change is just as relevant today as it was 100 years ago, when a group of pacifists founded War Resisters' International in Bilthoven, near Utrecht. WRI is (and was) an international group of people who want to prevent / eliminate causes of war and has grown into a network in 40 countries on all continents.
